The United States is in the preliminary process of electing a new president. The great debacle otherwise known as…
That sounds like pessimism, and I am sure there are a whole slew of people pipping up to give me all their reasons why their candidate isn’t all that bad, but the reality is – in my humble opinion – that the two party system in America is a system built to breed division. Continue reading
This is my first shot at Flash Fiction. Let me know what you think…
The day was March 11th, 2011. I was living in a small town, teaching English to junior high school students. It was their graduation day that day, a whole class of children were moving on to high school in a week. Many cried, many laughed. To be honest, up until 2:45 that day, it had been a really good day.
The graduation finished at around noon and the teachers all headed back to the staff room to pretend to work. I sat at my desk, typing away as always. I was trying to put the last touches on the novel I was writing.
Then it hit. I heard it coming up through the ground before I felt it, and every sense in my mind told me to run. I shot up from my desk, slammed my computer shut, and bolted for the door. The other teachers actually laughed at me.

Due to circumstances beyond my control I won’t be able to publish this week’s A Story from 10 Words. It’s been a rather hectic week and it ended in much the same fashion.

Stepping into the captain’s office my headache is nearly tripled in force as the onslaught of incense and oils the man has gathered wash over me like a tidal wave. He is trying new relaxation techniques and has even gotten into Feng Shui. I guess being the compact man that he is, an Asian wife made sense, but his dedication to going the whole nine is a bit much. He has wall scrolls, banzai trees, and those guardian lions. The problem for me is he has no idea that nearly every piece of his collection comes from a different Asian country. The least he could do is pick one and stick to it instead of creating a salad bar of Far East culture.
That, and it really does smell like shit.
“Good morning, captain,” I say, stepping across the office and taking a seat next to the coroner. Continue reading
This is my submission for 3 Line Tales, Week 3. I’m sorry Sonya, I went over by a line… I had to. I am all for being flogged if necessary.
I used a quote this week. Looking up at that moon, the idea struck me like a lightning bolt. One of my most beloved characters in one of the greatest stories ever told. I couldn’t resist. Continue reading

Thursday: Security & Friday: Regret
Race and racism is a complex issue. I can readily admit that I lack the proper skill to tackle the entire beast in one post. However, there is something that has occurred to me over the past few years that I would like to put out in the world.
