This is my submission for 3 Line Tales, Week 3. I’m sorry Sonya, I went over by a line… I had to. I am all for being flogged if necessary.
I used a quote this week. Looking up at that moon, the idea struck me like a lightning bolt. One of my most beloved characters in one of the greatest stories ever told. I couldn’t resist.
“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you ca’n’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”
~Welcome to Wonderland~
My eternal gratitude to Lewis Carroll and his timeless work, “Alice in Wonderland”. He defined so perfectly the insanity that is a child’s imagination. This work never ceases to remind me of the limitless possibilities I tend to lose track of more and more the older I get…
Love that quote & you know we share a love for the Cheshire cat! Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here? The Cheshire Cat: That depends a great deal on where you want to get to. Alice: I don’t care much where… The Cheshire Cat: Then it really doesn’t matter which way you go!

Great quote! Suitably twisted logic from the Cheshire Cat, and you’re right, a surrealist classic 🙂

Lovely three line story! And Alice in Wonderland is marvelous, isn’t it? I of course saw the Disney film as a child, but it wasn’t until adulthood that I read the original book, and it was even madder and zanier than I could have imagined. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for commenting! I own three editions of the book… I love it that much. So much insanity, but it’s still so familiar… despite being totally off the wall.

Great idea to use a quote that the image inspired. And I so wish I could call upon my child’s mind when inspiration is needed.

Thank you, and that is a wish I find myself combating more and more as I try to create fantasy worlds. It didn’t require focus when I was younger…

Well, I’ll let you off with a light slap on the wrist this time ;). Actually, it’s the kind of sideways take I love to see, so no complaints.

😀 Speaking of mad, I also love this “mad” quote:
“Mad Matter: “Have I gone mad?”
Alice: “I’m afraid so. You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”

Thank you, and thank you! Alice is a legendary story. That and Peter Pan I think are two of the few stories that really capture the unique childlike imagination.

Peter Pan was always a favorite, mainly because of my love of pirates.
But yes, it’s one of those stories that creates a very unique world that’s easy to get lost in.
